Final Call Pest Solutions treats the source of ants
One day the counter's clean, the next there's a trail working the sugar bowl or the dog food. Spray them and they're back in a week — because the ants you see are disposable workers, and the colony that sent them is untouched.
We identify the species, trace the trail to the nest, and use targeted baits that ants carry back and share — collapsing the colony from the inside out.
Types of Ants That Invade Northern Illinois Homes
Pavement Ants
Small, dark brown, trailing across driveways, patios, and basement floors. Our most common ant call — harmless to your house, but a colony can top 10,000 workers and won't leave a food source on its own.
Odorous House Ants
Crush one and it smells like rotten coconut. They trail along baseboards and counters, often pouring out of wall voids after rain. Don't spray — it splits the colony into several.
Carpenter Ants
The ones to worry about. Half-inch, solid black, and they hollow out damp wood to nest. Large black ants indoors or sawdust-like "frass" near sills means it's time for an inspection.

How Our Ant Control Service Works
Free On-Site Inspection
A licensed technician walks your property, identifies the species, and locates trails, entry points, and — where possible — the nest itself.
Species-Specific Treatment
We apply targeted non-repellent products and baits at active trails, entry points, and along the foundation. For carpenter ants, we also treat suspected galleries and outdoor nesting sites.
Interior + Exterior Coverage
Our Quad Shield™ Pest Protection System treats four zones on your property — the foundation, a three-foot perimeter, your property edge, and reachable soffit lines. Ants get intercepted before they ever reach the house.
Follow-Up & Guarantee
Ants back between visits? So are we — at no charge, for the life of your protection plan. That's the Final Call guarantee.
When to Call a Professional to Remove Ants
A few ants at the picnic table is nature. These are the signs it's time to make the call:
- Trails of ants indoors, especially in kitchens, bathrooms, or basements
- Large black ants (½ inch) inside the house — even just one or two
- Small piles of sawdust-like material near baseboards, window sills, or door frames
- Ant activity that returns within days of spraying
- Wings or discarded wings on window sills in spring (a mature colony is swarming)
- Ants appearing suddenly in large numbers after rain
If you're seeing any of these, don't wait for the problem to peak. Ant colonies grow fastest May through September in Northern Illinois, and every week of delay means a bigger nest to treat.

Ant Control FAQs
How much does ant control cost?
Ant treatment is included in every Quad Shield™ Protection Plan, so most homeowners get ant control as part of quarterly year-round service. One-time treatments are available for specific problems and are priced after inspection. We provide a firm quote before any work begins — no mystery fees.
Are your ant control products safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Our technicians use professional-grade products applied only where needed — baits inside cracks and crevices, targeted treatments along exterior trails. Areas remain accessible during and after treatment. We'll walk you through anything specific to your household before we start.
How long does it take to get rid of ants?
For pavement ants and odorous house ants, most homeowners see a sharp drop in activity within 3–7 days and full elimination within 2–3 weeks as the bait works through the colony. Carpenter ants often take longer — 2 to 6 weeks — because the colonies are larger and may have satellite nests.
Will ants come back after treatment?
Not to the treated colony. But Northern Illinois has more than 20 ant species, and new colonies are always looking for new territory. That's why our Quad Shield™ Protection System treats the property continuously, not just the current problem — and why we re-service free between visits if covered pests return.
Do you treat carpenter ants?
Yes. Carpenter ant treatment is one of our specialties, and we include a free inspection for suspected carpenter ant activity. If we find evidence of structural damage, we'll show you where and recommend next steps.
Can I spray for ants myself?
For a single ant sighting, sure — clean up the food source and wipe down the trail. For anything more, DIY treatments usually make the problem harder to solve, especially with odorous house ants (which bud when sprayed) and carpenter ants (which nest where sprays can't reach). If ants come back within a week of treatment, that's your sign to call a professional.
