Timing is everything with Bugs in the Fall

Every September, the south and west walls of your house turn into a landing strip. Boxelder bugs, lady beetles, and stink bugs pile onto the warm siding, find a gap, and move into your wall voids for the winter — then turn up in your living room on the first warm day of March.

Once they're inside the walls, there's not much anyone can do. The fix is a timed exterior barrier applied before they land. Get it on in late summer and they never get in.

The Bugs Swarming Your Siding in Northern Illinois

Boxelder Bugs

Black with red-orange markings, and they show up by the hundreds on sunny walls. They're drawn to boxelder and maple trees, harmless to your house, and impossible to ignore once they're clustered on the siding.

Asian Lady Beetles

Not your garden ladybug — these are orange, aggressive about getting indoors, and they stain surfaces and stink when crushed. Some people react to them; a few will even nip.

Stink Bugs

Shield-shaped and brown, they cluster on siding in fall and hide in attics and wall voids all winter. Crush one and you'll understand the name. Vacuum instead.

How We Stop Boxelder Bugs & Stink Bugs

Free On-Site Inspection

A licensed technician identifies the species, checks your sun-facing walls, and finds the gaps around windows, siding, soffits, and utility lines they're using to get in.

Timed Exterior Barrier

We treat before the swarm — late summer into early fall — so the barrier is working when they arrive, not after they've settled in.

Interior + Exterior Coverage

Our Quad Shield™ Pest Protection System treats four zones on your property — the foundation, a three-foot perimeter, your property edge, and reachable soffit lines. Soffits and upper walls are where fall invaders actually enter.

Follow-Up & Guarantee

Bugs back between visits? So are we — at no charge, for the life of your protection plan. That's the Final Call guarantee.

When to Call a Professional About Boxelder Bugs

  • Clusters of bugs on sunny south- or west-facing walls in September and October
  • Bugs turning up indoors on warm winter or early spring days
  • Orange beetles collecting in window tracks, light fixtures, or curtain folds
  • Stains or odor after crushing them
  • The same thing happening every single fall
  • Boxelder or maple trees close to the house

Don't wait until they're inside. The window for exterior treatment is late August through early October — after that, they're already in the walls and you're stuck with a vacuum until spring.

Bug Control FAQs

When should I schedule fall bugs treatment?

Late August through early October. The barrier has to be in place before they land on the siding — once they're in the wall voids, treatment can't reach them.

Do boxelder bugs or stink bugs damage my house?

No. They don't bite, sting, chew wood, or reproduce indoors. They're a nuisance — but a big one when there are hundreds on your siding and dozens in your living room.

Why do boxedlers and stink bugs keep coming back every year?

Your house is warm, sunny, and full of gaps. If your walls worked last winter, the same insects — and their offspring — will try again this fall. A timed barrier each year breaks the pattern.

Should I spray for bugs myself?

Store-bought sprays kill what you hit and nothing else, and spraying inside wall voids leaves dead insects that attract other pests. Vacuum what's indoors; treat the outside professionally.

Are your treatments safe for kids and pets?

Yes. Products are applied to exterior surfaces where the insects land, not inside your family's living space. Your technician will walk you through it before starting.

Do I need to remove my boxelder or maple trees?

No. Cutting down trees rarely solves it — these insects travel, and they'll find your sunny wall anyway. Treating the house is far more effective than removing the landscape.
